At this year’s Student Expedition, we saw how our esthetician and cosmetology students have developed their crafts and become true beauty industry professionals.
On November 12, Brillare’s Esthetics and Cosmetology programs hosted their annual Student Expedition at the Colonnade Event Center and Performing Arts Theatre in Ringgold, GA. During the hair and makeup show, students displayed their skills by creating unique looks tailored to this year’s theme: Apocalyptic vs. Euphoric. The juxtaposition of these two looks will showcase the broad range of talent of our cosmetology and esthetics students.
Brillare also hosted a silent auction, and proceeds went to charities in both Chattanooga and Cleveland. We’re dedicated to giving back to our communities and seeing them thrive. Below, we’ll take a deeper look at our Apocalyptic vs. Euphoric theme that we saw at this year’s student show.
One of the core components of this year’s student expedition theme was apocalyptic looks. These hair and makeup looks were dark, daring, and ominous—imagine wandering through a desolate, ravaged wasteland and coming across a group of nomads styled to the nines. We witnessed sharp eyeliner, heavy lashes, and smoky eyeshadow tinged with vibrant reds and oranges as well as hair pinned up and shaven in a utilitarian fashion.
The second half of this year’s theme was meant to contrast the former by being bright and bubbly. If you’ve seen HBO’s Euphoria, you already know that euphoric makeup makes use of every color on the spectrum, as well as copious amounts of sparkles, glitter, and rhinestones with muted undertones of blue, black, and purple. This year’s looks explored the concept of euphoria using hair and makeup—it was dazzling!
At this year’s Student Expedition, Brillare Beauty Institute donated proceeds from the silent auction to The Launch Pad. This Chattanooga-based non-profit organization provides housing, mentorship, and workforce development to women struggling with addiction.
The Launch Pad provides women with up to two years of housing. During their residency, they will attend regular AA/NA meetings as well as weekly group therapy. This environment of support and healing provides women with the means to become empowered, prosperous, and recovered. The Launch Pad gives them the tools to get back out in the world and obtain gainful employment.
Brillare also donated proceeds from this year’s silent auction to WillowBend Farms, a faith-based, non-profit organization in Cleveland. Proceeds from this event helped fund programs that support survivors of human trafficking.
WillowBend Farms provides trauma-informed services to encourage health across all areas of life. They focus on facilitating emotional, mental, physical, financial, and spiritual well-being for survivors using a combination of communal and residential services. Their initiatives also include prevention, education, and awareness programs, a network of safe houses, rescue opportunities, and demand reduction. These initiatives work in tandem to create an environment of support for survivors of human trafficking.
At Brillare Beauty Institute, we understand that our communities need support. That’s why we’re dedicated to aiding our local organizations in any way we can.
This year’s Student Expedition was just a snapshot of the wonderful work that our cosmetology and esthetics students have done throughout the year. From learning the basics of cutting and coloring to mastering advanced techniques, our students have shown us that they’re ready to dive right into the professional beauty industry.
At Brillare, we give our students the tools to embrace their creativity and become an authority in the world of beauty and cosmetics by giving them a hands-on learning experience. We understand that the beauty industry is extremely tactile, and we want our students to be comfortable working with real clients. That’s why each of our cosmetology and esthetics students takes time to learn in real time at our SalonSpa.
After 300 hours of cutting, coloring, and styling training on mannequins, our cosmetology students graduate to the SalonSpa, where they further hone their skills, working with industry professionals on a variety of skill sets and techniques. Similarly, our esthetics students spend the first ten weeks of their program learning proper skincare techniques and studying the science of the body and skin. After this, they, too, move into the SalonSpa, where they refine their trade.
