Our History

Brillare Beauty Institute’s Charter received initial 501c(3) status approval as a private, nonprofit educational institution in 1997. At the time, our school’s name was Franklin Academy. The first Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Franklin Academy was Mr. C.M. Fike, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Upon his passing in 2007, his wife, Esther Fike, took the role of Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Shortly after taking on the organization’s leadership role, Ms. Fike spearheaded the addition of the Esthetics program in 2008 and relocated the Main campus in 2012 to its current location on Professional Park Dr. in Cleveland Tennessee. In 2014, Karl Petersen was asked by Ms. Fike to take over the Chairman position, as well as the officer position of President, which he continues to hold today. In 2020, the school changed its name to Brillare Beauty Institute to better describe the organization’s mission. Brillare Beauty Institute also opened an extension site in April of 2020 in Chattanooga TN, about 30 miles away from the main campus.

We currently offer two programs exclusively, Cosmetology and Esthetics. Both are postsecondary diploma programs accredited by the Council of Occupational Education, approved by the TN State of Board of Cosmetology and recognized by the U.S. Dept. of Education, enabling students to receive Title IV funds.

Our Philosophy

Our philosophy at Brillare is this: Students receive a better beauty education when they perform hands-on learning activities from the very beginning. We believe this gives them more time to develop and master the techniques we teach them. We are specially equipped to provide this hands-on education since we are an accredited non-profit cosmetology school. We put our students’ needs first, and we leverage our professional partnerships to give them access to industry-leading beauty products and tools. Additionally, we help all our students find the financial aid options they qualify for, so they have the funds to attend beauty school and begin their cosmetology or esthetics career.

What We Provide

We offer two main program tracks: cosmetology and esthetics. In our cosmetology program, we teach our students to cut, color, and style hair. Students begin on mannequins in the classroom and then move on to our clients in our student-run SalonSpa. Likewise, we teach our esthetics students to perform PCA SKIN facials, advanced chemicals peels, and other skincare techniques, first on other students in the classroom and then in our student-run SalonSpa. We provide our students with everything they need to know to pass their state licensing exams, as well as extra certification opportunities that improve their job prospects after graduation. Additionally, we have a solid reputation with salons in our area, so they know they can count on Brillare graduates to provide great service to their clients after graduation.
