What’s the Best Facial for Dry Skin?

Best Type of Facial Treatment for Dry Skin

If you’re an esthetician and some of your clients suffer from dry skin, there’s no need to worry. With a little TLC, you can help them achieve moisturized skin by following these steps to the best facial treatment for dry skin.

Soft, Smooth Skin Requires Proper Moisture

Skincare should be an essential part of one’s daily routine. Good skincare practice aids in anti-aging and removing dead skin cells. Although there is plenty one can do between spa visits, some choose to schedule esthetician skin treatments on a regular basis, as well.

Everyone’s skin is different, so having a dedicated esthetician helps them maintain their healthiest skin by addressing their unique needs. Some clients may struggle with acne, hyperpigmentation, or oiliness. However, another common issue is chronic dryness. A client who struggles with this problem may exhibit:

  • Skin flaking
  • Skin tightness, especially around the mouth and eyes
  • Itchiness and irritation
  • Fine lines or cracks
  • Skin that feels or looks rough

Although this is a worrisome issue, the good news is it can be fixed.

How to Treat Dehydrated Skin

Dehydrated skin struggles with water retention. No matter how much moisturizer or oil you apply, if there isn’t enough water under the surface, it won’t help. Because of this, some people struggle with breakouts and acne, which is usually a sign of oily skin, even though dryness may be the issue.

The most effective way to treat your clients’ dry skin is to layer it with the nourishment it needs while still damp with water. Doing so locks in the hydration, allowing it to penetrate the skin.

The best facial for dry skin requires these steps:

Wash Face With a Sulfate-Free Cleanser

Before applying a masque or moisturizer, start with fresh, clean skin. Steer clear of harsh products that contain strong soaps and astringents that strip away the skin’s protective barrier and remove what little moisture it has. During the esthetic facial, start with a sulfate-free cleanser that won’t remove the natural moisturizing factors (NMFs), which help the skin stay hydrated.

Apply a Toner and Masque with Hydrating Botanicals

After the skin is clean, don’t dry it all the way. Leave a thin layer of water before applying the toner with water-binding ingredients like hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, and glycerine. These products keep the skin soft and supple while helping other products seep into the skin easier. After misting the toner over the skin, apply an even layer of a soothing masque filled with fruit enzymes that eliminate the top layer of dead skin cells and reveal smooth, soft skin with a dewy appearance.

Use a Serum or Moisturizer with Humectants and Natural Emollients

You want your clients’ skin to have a natural glow instead of an oily finish. The last step to the esthetic facial is to apply a long-lasting moisturizer. Whether it’s a serum or a cream, it needs to have humectants, substances that attract water from deep within the skin, and emollients, which lock in moisture and make the skin soft to the touch.
